Netflix DVD Shipments Vs Instant Watches Trends

As Netflix looks to the future with its ramp-up of Instant Watch offerings, we thought it would be interesting to see what the growth of Instant Watch streams was, especially compared to DVD Shipments.  Take a look at the graph below and you’ll see that while Netflix’s DVD Shipments growth is very impressive, even more impressive is the rate at which Instant Watch is being adopted. In fact 2009 is on track to be the first year when Instant Watch streams will far outstrip the number of DVD shipments from Netflix.

Blu-ray adoption at Netflix

Netflix's Blu-ray Adoption

As of today (Feb 7, 2009), about 19% of FeedFlixers are on the Blu-ray option. Extrapolating this to Netflix’s 10M members, that would mean close to 2M members. Not bad at all. To see how this number changes over time, just bookmark this: Netflix’s Blu-ray Adoption.
